Southland Sightseeing

It feels like ages since I wrote my last post.

Well, it’s been a rough road that last month. Lots of ups and downs and something close to an aversion towards blogging. Nothing personal, just too little energy and too much in my head.

No.1 turned 3

I managed to have two photo sessions. One is already on my blog here. For that session I had the opportunity to try a wonderful lens: 24mm f/1.4G ED AF-S. As I got used to it “Oh” ‘s  and “Ah” ‘s were coming out of me all the time. I was simply in heaven.

My second session was with a pregnant, beautiful mamma and her family. I didn’t have much time to post them on the blog, though.  Will do it shortly.

I have two newborn sessions in front of me so starting tomorrow I am getting back to the hats making mode.

Last Saturday we came back from Orange County where we had gone for husband’s business trip. We did some sightseeing but mostly just from our car.

We visited my husband friend and his pets

There was a lot of coffee involved

Not as much as I thought of crocheting:

And two nights in hotels. I was very surprised how good our kids dealt with that.

Before we had left the house we planned the trip so I could see the “Hollywood” sign. I was very excited about that but it actually didn’t happen, and I am not heart broken.

We drove by the place where we suppose to stand in order to see the sign:

but when we got there, there were cars on cars parked on cars. Cars to the left and cars to the right. In addition the kids just fell asleep after a quite long time of screaming. I did not feel like I want to spend my time looking for a parking and then climbing up the hill to see some big letters – and just for that waking up the kids. It felt so good to ride in silence. They wake up pretty soon anyway. Go figure.

At least we stopped to see the “Walk of Fame”. I really enjoyed that.

I got lucky to find my favorite star within a few minutes from where we get out of the car.

Then a few more:

And just as we were packing everybody to the car the husband spotted this place:

On the way back we saw a sand storm, or a beginning of one.

Oh… and we finally left our young doggy where she belongs – with a trainer.

and we picked up our Old Lady who during the last year has gotten so old, and blind, an deaf and oh… so disoriented. We got very close to actually not having her, but my crocodile tears had changed it. Not that I did it in purpose, but I just couldn’t stand the vision of not having her back. Simple.

She still is the very loving and patient dog I remember. She always has been.

No.1 has already taken good care of the Old Lady.  After a few times of trying to ride the dog we finally told her that the dog is sick (which is not far from the truth at all), so she shouldn’t be doing it anymore. It worked. Now she is very carrying and loving towards the dog. She brings her blankets and pillows.

We are all happy to have her back. I can’t describe how happy I am. She is back where she belongs!

My kind of Heaven

I hope all of you, mothers, had a wonderful day yesterday.

Despite very harsh morning, which meant, I could have slept much longer but my husband woke me up VERY early. He didn’t know I had struggled with our Little Princess till 4:30 am. He had planned that trip much earlier and wanted to take me there really bad. At the end of the day I was actually happy he did wake me up even if I was a little mad when he did that 😉

We went to a beautiful garden (Elisabeth F. Gamble Garden in Palo Alto) with so many flower to photograph. All of them were at the peak of blooming stage. Just a wonderful place!

Despite that everyone was yawning…

… and throwing tantrums…

… in general we had a great time:

In such a beautiful place it would be a shame not to enjoy it.

Normally I’m not a big fan of photographing flowers… until I start doing it 🙂

Every single time we go visit a place with flowers I’m a little skeptical. I have the attitude: “Flowers? Again?” but then we get there and I take the camera out and from the start I feel like I’m in a hog heaven. Weird.

Scattered Horizons

They even had something Polish :

And after I fed my soul with all that beauty there was a time to feed my body… with pear gorgonzola pizza.

Have a wonderful after Mother’s Day day, my friends 🙂

Garlock – the town of a few ruins

Everytime we would pass by this place I thought how cool it would be to stop, walk around and take some pictures. Almost all the time we hadn’t have much time to do so.

Coming back from Christmas at Jay’s parents he offered to stop. I was surprised he did that. Don’t know why. Maybe I got used to the thought that we will never stop here, and it’s gonna be one of those places that later on I’d think: “god damn it! I should’ve said something, and we should’ve stoped there” but it’s too late and almost forgotten.

So,
we stoped in the middle of nowhere, actually !!!

And there it is Garlock, California Registered Historical Landmark No. 671
“In 1896 Eugene Garlock constructed a stamp mill near this spot for the crushing of gold ore from the yellow aster mine on rand mountain. Known originally as cow wells by prospectors and freighters during the 1880’s and early 1890’s, the Town of Garlock continued to thrive until water was piped from here to Randsburg in 1898, and the Kramer-Randsburg rail line was completed in the same year”

Most of my pictures are photos of this one place. It was really cool – inside and outside.

Quick pick at the rest of the ruins around and we were ready to leave. I mean, I would’ve stayed there much longer, but I didn’t want to overstep Jay’s patience. I know that left alone he is as content playing with “almighty Droid” as I am taking my pictures! 😉 but sometimes too much is too much 🙂 (never too much time for talking pictures, though)

At the Rainbow Park on Rainbow Drive

…hm… it’s almost like “the double rainbow”. right? 😉

My double rainbow loves to go to the parks and play.
Dad’s happy that daughter is growing so he can take her out and play a little bit more than before.
Daugther is happy because she is out of and

Ewelina is more interactive, loves to go out and just hang out wherever we leave her. She is looking around at other kids playing. It’s amazing how time is flying…
Sometimes I feel like she was born just a few days ago…
Sometimes like it’s been a year or more.
Strange.
When you’ve got a child you see it growing and not knowing when it’s 18th.
I’m so happy I’ve been taking pictures of her almost every day, and everywhere. The only thing it’s gonna last forever.
Someday when she is gone building her own life and her own family I’ll have my picures, and that little precious girl on them.
She’ll be always precious. And she’ll be always my little girl.

De Young, San Francisco

Our trip to San Francisco had started from visiting De Young museum in Golden Gate Park.

Next time if we go there we’ll spend much more time inside this elevator. It’s an awesome place for somebody who loves, loves, loves reflections, but at the same time it’s not for somebody who haven’t figured out white balance, and doesn’t want to use any other mode than manual… Grrrr. Next time I’ll be going up and down until I get at least one decent shot 🙂

But… look at Ewelina’s face! She had a blast with us!

A few shots from the view point.

ah… and a shot of Joanna while capturing me and Ewelina . It looks like she’s happy with what she captured… 🙂

… and of course reflections… the coolest room ever!

Streets of San Francisco

A few days ago me my little turtle, and Joanna went to the City. We had something like a “kind of plan” of what we want to do, and where we want to go.

This is link to the route we walked.

http://www.endomondo.com/embed/workouts?w=mnwKKx553dY&width=950&height=600

It’s not quite accurate, because I do not remember all those streets we’d turned onto… 🙂 Joanna should remember, she had the map.

For the first 4 miles we took MUNI bus. It was terrible. With the stroller, our camera’s bags, diaper’s bag, bus driver barely speaking English, and bus full of first grade kids… ufff… next time we need to find better transportation.

I’ll post pictures from “de young” in my next post.

These pictures are not quite in the right order…

Joanna while taking picture of sofa/bench in front of the furniture store

the rest of mine pictures are do dupy, and not worth to show… :-/
that’s why we need another trip to the City… SOON!!!

New Brighton State Beach, CA, and Emily Dickinson

Going to Heaven!
I don’t know when —
Pray do not ask me how!

Indeed I’m too astonished
To think of answering you!
Going to Heaven!
How dim it sounds!

And yet it will be done
As sure as flocks go home at night
Unto the Shepherd’s arm!

Perhaps you’re going too!
Who knows?

If you should get there first
Save just a little space for me
Close to the two I lost —

The smallest “Robe” will fit me
And just a bit of “Crown” —
For you know we do not mind our dress
When we are going home —

I’m glad I don’t believe it
For it would stop my breath —

And I’d like to look a little more
At such a curious Earth!

I’m glad they did believe it
Whom I have never found
Since the might Autumn afternoon
I left them in the ground.

My family at the beach…

Capitola, CA. New Brighton State Beach.

Ewelina’s first visit at the beach. It was fun.

Dad’s wish was not to be on any of my pictures…

So I said ok. Your wish is my command! (Yea! Right!)

I’m lucky I’ve got Ewelina. She is such a great model, and I don’t have to be sneaky with her…
