Southland Sightseeing

It feels like ages since I wrote my last post.

Well, it’s been a rough road that last month. Lots of ups and downs and something close to an aversion towards blogging. Nothing personal, just too little energy and too much in my head.

No.1 turned 3

I managed to have two photo sessions. One is already on my blog here. For that session I had the opportunity to try a wonderful lens: 24mm f/1.4G ED AF-S. As I got used to it “Oh” ‘s  and “Ah” ‘s were coming out of me all the time. I was simply in heaven.

My second session was with a pregnant, beautiful mamma and her family. I didn’t have much time to post them on the blog, though.  Will do it shortly.

I have two newborn sessions in front of me so starting tomorrow I am getting back to the hats making mode.

Last Saturday we came back from Orange County where we had gone for husband’s business trip. We did some sightseeing but mostly just from our car.

We visited my husband friend and his pets

There was a lot of coffee involved

Not as much as I thought of crocheting:

And two nights in hotels. I was very surprised how good our kids dealt with that.

Before we had left the house we planned the trip so I could see the “Hollywood” sign. I was very excited about that but it actually didn’t happen, and I am not heart broken.

We drove by the place where we suppose to stand in order to see the sign:

but when we got there, there were cars on cars parked on cars. Cars to the left and cars to the right. In addition the kids just fell asleep after a quite long time of screaming. I did not feel like I want to spend my time looking for a parking and then climbing up the hill to see some big letters – and just for that waking up the kids. It felt so good to ride in silence. They wake up pretty soon anyway. Go figure.

At least we stopped to see the “Walk of Fame”. I really enjoyed that.

I got lucky to find my favorite star within a few minutes from where we get out of the car.

Then a few more:

And just as we were packing everybody to the car the husband spotted this place:

On the way back we saw a sand storm, or a beginning of one.

Oh… and we finally left our young doggy where she belongs – with a trainer.

and we picked up our Old Lady who during the last year has gotten so old, and blind, an deaf and oh… so disoriented. We got very close to actually not having her, but my crocodile tears had changed it. Not that I did it in purpose, but I just couldn’t stand the vision of not having her back. Simple.

She still is the very loving and patient dog I remember. She always has been.

No.1 has already taken good care of the Old Lady.  After a few times of trying to ride the dog we finally told her that the dog is sick (which is not far from the truth at all), so she shouldn’t be doing it anymore. It worked. Now she is very carrying and loving towards the dog. She brings her blankets and pillows.

We are all happy to have her back. I can’t describe how happy I am. She is back where she belongs!

warm hugs,

365 Self-Portrait Project (week 35th)

First of all, I want to invite all of you to read my post at World Moms Blog about my Self-Portrait Project. It is called “(Self)Portrait of mother(hood)” and I talk in it about… hm… this project in general, and why I encourage mothers to be more brave when it comes to have their pictures taken… for the sake of the future generations.

Second of all, this post has A LOT of pictures, not only self-portraits but of the things and places that we’ve seen, done, and gone to. Without them this post wouldn’t be complete.

New Hair Cut or Not… Thinking.
I am kinda tired of my I-Don’t-Know-What-To-Do-With hair cut. For years I had had short hair. Whenever they grew longer I would feel like there is nothing more boring than long hair and I would cut it again. When I met my husband he said he wish I would keep my hair long, and I did. Then I got really mad and frustrated with having to deal with my hair EVERYWHERE and I cut them. Since then they have grown again and again I’m in a spot where I hate it. I hate how they fall out, I hate to have them all over my clothes, in our food, and all over my kids. I hate to wear pony tail ALL THE TIME, too.

And I think: Cut it?

On Saturday we hit the road. 7 hours long road trip. When we finally got to our destination I stayed at the hotel room with NO. 2 while the husband took No.1 and went to chat with his parents.

Sunday was crazy. HOT AS HELL.

At some point me and the husband kind of split again. I’d stayed at the hotel room, feeding No.2 and taking a nap with her,

while my other half went outside to spent some time with his parents, taking No.1 with him.

Later that day, just before putting everybody to bed I took this picture.

We were teaching No.2 how to play “High Five” 😉

On Monday we hit the road again. This time it took as 12 hours to get back home. It was the most tiring trip I had ever experienced.

If a few years ago somebody told me I am going to hate road trips, I would laugh loud and long. I would say: “you freaking kidding me. I love road trip. I will never grow tired of road trips. NEVER!

If a year ago somebody told me I’ll be the most happy person on the earth seeing Denny’s sign, I would say: “You’re freaking crazy!!!”.

You may ask: why I don’t like road trips anymore?

So here is your answer:

and while you watch this movie imagine that you’re stuck in this car for about 9 hours… and you’re car sick, and you’ve got a headache so big that you can barely see what in front of you…

Somewhere in the middle of our trip we picked up Kid NO.3:

She is 11 weeks old.

She is NOT potty trained.

She is afraid of us.

She couldn’t walk on leash.

She is all what I DO NOT NEED at this point of our life.

but husband had waited for this puppy for over a year…

She is already a best buddy with No.1

No/1  is the main reason No.3 (her name is Magnolia/Maggie) has learned to walk on leash in a period of 2 days.

She sleeps in crate.

She is not potty trained, and every single morning we wake up to a smell of poop and pee.

So until she is fully trained, her place is in there.

The training is going pretty good, though.

During the day she doesn’t poop or pee in the house. Yeay!

and here are her mother and her brother:

This was taken after one of those mornings when my husband goes outside in order to clean up the crate and I go to the bathroom to wash the poop and pee off of No.3.

Play time.

No. 2 LOVES to play  “flying baby”. This is one of those moments when no matter how mad, sad, frustrated she is, when I pick her up and do the “flying baby” a big smile appears on her face, immediately.

Bonnie’s texture “The Little Things”

Today we’ve had a several potty breaks. Doggy hasn’t had a single accident inside the apartment what makes me really happy!

and while we were playing I took a few shots of my little ones:

I wish you all super relaxing weekend, my friends!

I hope for more than 4 hours of sleep during those few upcoming nights…

365 Self-Portrait Project (week 13)

This week we are still 3 people (plus dog) household. Next week that is going to change and I can’t wait. I think, I am more scared that anything else. We are going to have TWO KIDS!!! When did that happen 😉

Saturday was a lazy day from what I remember. It rained all day with a few breaks and during one of them I took a tripod and my camera outside and in a hurry I took this picture.

Sunday was unbelievable boring. Gosh, I thought I’m going to kill myself. Wandering around the house I got so grumpy and cranky that at some point I just lied down trying to relax and just be, but that didn’t last for a long time. Anyway I was so happy when that day finally ended.

It suppose to be a picture of my necklace but with about 20 pictures taken non was with the right focus so… that is the best one.

I had planned for this picture to be completely different BUT as you can see on the second picture to take it was almost impossible with my Little Darling standing in front of me trying to eat that strawberry. Too bad I couldn’t take a photo of her from up front. She was standing with her mount wide open hoping I will give it to her and I finally did.

… and of course the dog is always where I am. These two always follow me whenever I go. So these days the only place I can hide and have some “me time” is my bathroom but that works when my husband is around. If he is not those two are in the bathroom with me as well (no matter what).

Don’t know how to explain that self-portrait.

That day I was in a mood of something different and I was celebrating one week to my surgery 🙂

Taking this picture I thought that I have to make one week of my selfies devoted just to my rings. These days my fingers are too swollen to wear them but normally my rings are very important part of me. This one is the oldest ring I have. It’s almost 15 years old and there was a long period in my life in which I wouldn’t go out without it. If that happened and I noticed that it’s not on my finger I went back home to put it on. Good old days 😉

Yesterday I started to crochet a scarf for newborn pictures. I have some ideas for when our Little Sister gets home and I thought I need some pictures props. I’m planning to make some nice and easy head bands, too.

I would’ve be done by now with this scarf but I run out of yarn. Gotta visit Michaels today.

Have a great weekend, my friends.

365 Self-portrait Project (week 9)

New week and new pictures of my tired self but instead of complaining about it I’ll start this post with a few photos taken by my friend while she visited us two weeks ago. Those are beautiful and I couldn’t be any happier that she was able to visit us at this particular moment of my life. I don’t want to spoil her work by posting all the pictures she sent to me before they are up on her blog. I think I already did post all of them. lol

I know that there is many much better photos – and I’m not saying those are not good ( I LOVE THEM ALL), but I saw many more pictures she had taken during those two days with us and I know that she holds the very best for herself until she is ready to post them on her blog. I CAN’T wait!!! and I promise I won’t post any more pictures from this session before they are on her blog.

Back to my tired self from this past week.

Saturday. More pictures of us in the kitchen. As you probably remember there was a few shots of this kind in the past. I can promise you that there will be more in the future. The kitchen is a place where we spent a lot of our time, and whenever I’m there our Little One needs to be there as well plus the “For Scraps Looking” and “If I Make Sweet and Puppy Eyes She’ll Drop Something For Me” dog.

Sunday. Beautiful weather. Gardening day. Getting dirty day.

Monday. Early morning. On the way for a doctor’s appointment. Tired. Waiting for my husband while he went to the store to get some water and snacks.

Tuesday. Got up at 6:30 am. Went to a doctor. Spent there the entire morning. The rest of my day looked just like that.

Wednesday. I totally forgot about this project. Seriously. I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when it hit me: “I NEED TO TAKE A PHOTO!” But gosh… I was so tired and there wasn’t a single idea in my head of how to do it. In moments like that a mirror or my big belly are always my saviours.

My point of view whenever I look down. My belly is always first. Most of the time there is my daughter hiding under it and of course the dog… hoping for some love or food.

Today, I got up with this particular feeling. I REALLY NEED A HUG or two, wouldn’t mind three. Delicious smoothie for breakfast improved my mood a little.

While sharing it with my daughter I got more than three hugs with many more kisses. I think she liked that smoothie and she just wanted more. She’s sneaky like that. Anyway, I got what I needed and that made me feel better 🙂 It didn’t even matter that I broke a pot with growing little basil in it while not being really into re-poting them for a second time. I’ve got so many basil growing this year that those 4 plants ( I actually rescued 2) didn’t make a big difference, anyway.

Have a great weekend my friends. Spring is here and I hope it’s whenever you live, as well.

365 Self-Portrait Project (one week in Black and White)

Last week was pretty boring. Being in my final 8 weeks of pregnancy terrible headaches and nausea came back and there is nothing that can help me to deal with it. Gotta live it through. Today I’m feeling even more crappy that in the past few days, so I’ll try to be quick with this post.

To make it more interesting I’ve decided that all of this week pictures are going to be in black and white. An awful white balance had a big role in that decision, I have to admit (nop, I do not shoot in RAW, anymore). A few of this week pictures were taken with my 18-55 mm lens in a high ISO and sometimes they came out really dark. The problem is that on my camera screen they all look good and bright enough. After I transfer them to my computer the naked truth reveals – they are not a half that bright as they were on the camera screen. The thing is that I do not transfer my pictures every day. So if I took a picture on Saturday and saw that it’s much too dark and the white balance is totally screwed on Monday… You see my point. I can’t go back in time and take another, better picture for Saturday and Sunday. I need to go with what I have and pretend that I planned for it to be that way 😉

So on Saturday we had a doggy bath. She hates it what always amazes me to the limits. You need to know, that she used to be a hunting dog, and she would throw herself into a freezing cold water to bring a dead duck back to my husband. A few times I saw her jumping into a cold lakes playing fetch with us, but turn on the shower and call her name these days… you’ll see the most scared dog on this planet. I need to drag her through the entire house (from wherever she’s hiding) to the bathroom.

On the other hand turn on the shower and you’ll see our daughter taking her clothes off immediately. If me or my husband disappear in the bathroom without taking her with us, she cries. She loves baths!!! So last Saturday I had a bit of challenge trying to bath our dog while at the same time trying to not let my daughter inside the bathtub. She was already taking her clothes off and making her puppy eyes.

You might call it cheating, but I don’t think it was. This picture was taken on Sunday 1am… I can count it for Sunday self-portrait, right?! Checking on our daughter. She always go to bed with almost every single stuffed animal that she has and with 10 different books and with 3 blankets, plus a few of her favorite toys that play every single time you touch them… . They are everywhere and there is almost no room for her to lie down. She actually manges to sqeeze somehow between them and falls asleep. Every single night, before we go to bed, I need to make room for her in her crib so she can sleep through the night.

Quietly I take those toys out. One by one.

On Monday I tried a new bread recipe and it was delicious. Oatmeal Sandwich Bread – new family favorite. Next week I’ll try to post the recipe and a few pictures.

So, what you see here is me eating a slice of that bread with swiss cheese and a homemade jam. I grew up on those kinds of sandwiches.

Yellow cheese and jam!

Folding laundry. Not much to explain about those shots 🙂

Tired me, sick me, and in a crappy mood me. “Just leave me alone” me.

Yesterday was Fat Thursday so I baked angel wings. The problem was that every time I wanted to eat one my daughter wanted it, too. She got our dog attitude for begging for food. Even the smallest movement of my or my husband’s jaw doesn’t go unnoticed by our daughter, and when she sees it she is my or his best friend. I mean, really, just like a dog 😉 but the thing is that if you say: NO to our dog she understands and she takes it without much aggression (no aggression, actually). With our daughter is a different story. She doesn’t care about the word NO. It’s either her way or the highway.

A mirror on my bathroom shelf and me in it, tired… very!

Have a great weekend my friends. I’ll be preparing myself for a real maternity session with my talented and missed friend on Monday. She took beautiful pictures of my belly when I was pregnant for the firs time and after my daughter was born she visited us and we visited her... and oh I wish she lived closer… .

Anyway, today and through the weekend I’ll be praying to the Great Gods of Good Weather so we would be able do what we are planning to do and go where we are planning to go.

How our dog gets her food…

It’s very simple.

There is a hierarchy in here.

First our daughter eats and IF there is something left our dog can have it.

For a while our daughter was portioning the dog food to the dog.

It wasn’t like the dog was first to eat her food. First was our daughter and if she felt like sharing…oh well…doggy got lucky that day.

She doesn’t eat dog food anymore but it’s not because she doesn’t like it anymore, it’s because I don’t let her. She stinks like fish (or whatever flavor that dog food is) and it’s about time for her to learn what to eat and what not to (don’t you think?!), but mainly because I didn’t want our dog to starve to death AND the dog food is not that cheap to be buying it for two when one of them can live on rice. (wonder who… huh?) 😉

These days our dog, if she wants an extra snack, she needs to be very focus. If she sees our daughter eating something she looks like she is planning to hunt it down… (the food, I mean). She gets into her comfy position from where she can keep an eye on our daughter and the food.

and she waits patiently. sometimes she falls asleep in meantime (LOL).

If she can, she gets closer and closer with every move.

and she watches… very carefully… every single move… .

… and boom (!!!), fast but not furious. Finally… our daughter dropped some!

but it’s not that bad as you might think, after all. Today, for examples, I cough our daughter sneaking food under the table so the dog could eat it from her hand… and everything while watching me if I see it. So sneaky…., not very good at it, yet… but trying. Funny.

Pictures of the day

Today’s kind of wordless day but with many things going on in my kitchen… . I baked, I cooked, I cleaned and now I am exhausted. It’s unbelievable what pregnancy can make with a woman. I barely can recognize myself. I haven’t had so much energy in months. Today I was making granola bars, cooking beets soup and preparing dinner rolls, everything at the same time. In the meantime I changed a few diapers, played with our Stinker for a while and fed her breakfast and lunch (and of course cleaned everything after she was done… what you can see on pictures below). I was done with everything by 1pm.

Now I’m thinking what to make for dinner… but, maybe I’ll skip that part and let the family to live on little sandwiches made from dinner rolls. Will see.

Now I dream about black coffee and a slice of pineapple upside down cake… but not having any at the house (coffee I mean) I’ll stick to a cup of green tea with grapefruit juice.., and share some funny pictures from today and yesterday.

Loving her baloons and herself in the mirror... .
Lucky, and looking very very comfy.

Figuring out what's better: eating straight from the table, or maybe using a little bit help from her hands... .

Trying out my new awesome toy

Second post today, but I couldn’t wait any longer. Husband’s playing his Playstation, Little One is napping, so I’m having “mommy time” to process new pictures I’ve taken at the park today. The weather is just gorgeous. Can’t believe it’s November.

Anyway I’m so happy with my new lens… . SO HAPPY! So, So Happy! 🙂

I’m not yet used to it so I tend to over or underexposed a lot while shooting on manual. I’ll get there, though.

Husband and “used to be” his dog until I moved in and spoiled her to the bones 😉

I had a chance to try this lens out a few days ago while visiting San Francisco and this is what I came up with:

Apparently my daughter loved it as much as I did 😉

Happy Hugs to all of you!

Playful morning

We got up very early today. So coffee was definitely needed…

… and after I had my breakfast and our Hungry Butt had hers we were practising being simply happy. Dad was gone so we could listen to Aretha Franklin (dad doesn’t like her) really loud, dance and bang on the toys pretending they are drums. We had our private music lesson 🙂

After that she had to rest for a while laying on the floor and goofing off to my camera.

It’s a rule that when we play doggy wants to play, too. She is jealous all the time and I know we do not give her the same amount of attention as we used to, so today we tried to play all together.

Just look at her… Those puppy eyes were begging for some attention and love.

… and she got it:

and then, she {snapped}

I do not think that it was what she actually was hoping for but… better that than nothing…. she thought (I bet) 🙂

After a while she was saved by our monkey’s hunger.

Amnaam (what sound like “amniam” in Polish) and everything needs to be dropped. We go to the kitchen she points at the fridge/tried to open it, goes back to her high chair and pushes it to the table.

Today she learned how to climb on her high chair. She was practising it all day yesterday and today she finally did it. I’ll take some picture of that process sometime later. Today I was too worried watching her and trying to stay close in case if she falls down. Should I prohibit her from doing that?! I don’t think so. The more often she falls the more tough she’ll get 🙂

Have a great day, everybody!
