Visiting Nevada – Day Two: Virginia City

After our day in Reno we’d left to Virginia City, an old town that still looks like the Wilde West. Leaving Reno we weren’t sure if we’re going to stay in Virginia City or maybe go back to Reno for the night. We even had considered going back home the same day.

Adventures & Misadventures of Daily Living

The ride from Reno to Virginia City was really awful as it always is for me on the very curvy roads. I wasn’t ready for such a hot weather, I hadn’t been drinking enough water and when we got to the city I was shaking, whatever I would say I’d heard echo in my head, I felt like I’m going to throw up… . I felt miserable. The whole being-in-a-middle-of-a-dessert thing… ugh… I am totally not used to it. I don’t count those few trips to in-laws where for the most of the time we are indoors anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

As soon as we got there my husband got me a cold, iced (not very tasty) milkshake which made me feel much better. We had sat in the old retro saloon re-made into a small casino-like place until I regain my energy.ย

Then we went for a walk looking for some place to have late lunch-early dinner. As soon as we got there I knew I want to stay there for the night. This place was really nice and unique, I wanted to see more. So while kids and I had been finishing our lunch/dinner the husband went for a hotel seeking trip. He came back with a good news. After we had eaten we all left to the hotel where we got some rest, posted a few pictures from the trip on facebook, got a bandage for our daughter’s blister and we’d left for another walk.

This time the weather was MUCH COOLER and there was MUCH LESS people on the streets.

Both places, Reno and Virginia City were great, but Virginia City was my favorite. It’s such a great thing to be able to see the real, old and historical wild west and be able to walk those old streets and visit the old buildings. The words “old building” have such a different feeling to it when I think about old buildings in Poland, or Europe in general. Some buildings are almost 1000 years old like this churchย  dated back to 1079!!! The difference is huge between the European and American history and I’m always excited and happy when I am able to compare it with my own eyes and body ๐Ÿ™‚

Our trip would’ve been even better if we hadn’t had such a rough time going back home. We were all really tired of being on the road a lot, not sleeping well, walking with blisters or being trapped in the car seats. The drive back home was just too much. What normally would’ve taken 4ย  hours this time took almost 8!ย

Luckily we got home just in time for Next Food Network Star!!!

Butterflies and a dragon

A few days ago I went inside to check on my basil. I do it almost every day. I’m so proud of my basil and I’m happy that I figured out what’s wrong with it and how to fix it.

When I was outside I saw a few butterflies wandering around. They weren’t scared of me and it seemed like they are going to be around for a while. Having that opportunity I went inside to take my camera. When I came back they were still flying around.

The same day we went shopping for Halloween costume for our Little One. We had costume for her last year and as much as I don’t like that holiday I really enjoyed it last year. Maybe because our daughter was super cute and it was hard not to enjoy taking all those pictures. There is one thing I am sure off: one or maybe two more years I’ll be going with her and dad for “trick or treat” after that I’m done. I’m really not into that. Maybe because of the culture I grew up. Maybe because I am not used to it. Maybe because in Poland it’s actually a sad day where people remembering all those who died, go to churches, cemeteries, light candles, pray… etc. There is nothing funny and commercial about that holiday back there.

I know that during those last few years “Halloween culture” got to Poland, too. I don’t know if kids go to Halloween parties. I bet they don’t go “trick or treating”, yet… but it’s a matter of time… I would say ๐Ÿ˜ฆ (I’m not very happy about that)

Anyway… this year our Little One is going to be a Dragon ๐Ÿ™‚ Costume looks really cute. Since we bought it she really likes to wear the hat inside the house.

Happy Monday, everybody! Hope you doing/making something enjoyable today just to start week with a good mood.ย (instead of doing my laundry and cleaning) I just baked an apple pie and spent the entire morning talking with my parents on skype . Hadn’t done that for almost a month.ย

“Meow” means Kitty – and the story behind it

Cat the Stranger – that’s how I call him. Homeless or just lost. Who knows. He looks like he’s been shaved by some kids just for fun. My husband says he looks normal. I mean, that the haircut looks normal. I don’t think so. He acts like he used to be domestic.

The first time I saw his walking towards me I ran, scared, back to our apartment. He looked so wild. He was waving his tail and meowing SO LOUD. After a while I got used to him and I let him get closer. I have no idea if he carriers some diseases so I won’t let my daughter to touch him or get very close. He is very friendly guy. It’s been about 3 days since we first heard him. He comes around our door about dinner time. Our daughter gets so excited when she sees him ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks to that kitty she finally understood that when we say: “meow” it means “kitty”. I’ve gone through books with her pointing and cats, and saying “meow” every single time, but yesterday when she saw that cat and heard him you could see that “I GOT IT” face! It was sooo funny! Now she says “meow” every single time she sees a picture of a cat.

It’s really great to be able to witness all those little steps she takes to understand the world around her. It’s even more beautiful to observe how she does that, what helps her, and when it happens!

I am not a cat person. If I was that cat would’ve been ours already. I like cats but I hate that they need that litter stuff, and they poop at the house, and that they aren’t so lovey dovey… which for me is the main point you have a pet at the house ๐Ÿ™‚ On the other hand I don’t want him to go to a shelter where he might go pretty soon if he won’t go away. He looks so cute and friendly… and… so neglected. I wish I could do something for him…. .

Survival of the fittest… (wordless(ish) Wednesday)

So, I just want to let you know, that today’s post is sponsored by the word “Wendsday”ย  or “Wednesday” or “Wedensday”.

it’s the next word from the list of “don’t be surprise if I miss spell it every time I write it” along with “think – instead of thing (and vice versa), now – instead of know (and vice versa)… and so on.

btw, I know that I misspell much more words that I think I do… but I’ve got a list of words that I write wrong constantly… I know I know, I should use the “check spelling” option but… I just don’t want to. Too proud for that I guess, or too lazy… or just don’t want to know how many mistakes I made ๐Ÿ˜‰

anyway, I didn’t know what to write about today, and do not have new pictures. I’m kind of exhausted after last Sunday and days of editing my pictures from celebration of the beatification of Pope John Paul II. I’m not done with them, yet, but I need a break. I promised myself a day with a book today, and so far I haven’t read a page… and it’s 3:30pm. Time to start cooking something. Grrr… So lazy today.

So, those pictures are kind of old. I would say, they were born last Saturday. Enjoy.

Picture {Perfect}

This is my second attempt to grow an avocado. Last year it died for some reason, and I really don’t know why. This year I’ll pay more attention.

And be careful those pictures below might my a little disturbing.
