I WILL stop and smell the flower without taking picture of it… Announcing Rehab!!!

Time flies by so fast when you have kids and I am aware of it not only looking and my kids but by looking in the mirror. Sometimes it makes me sad. I wish I could look a bit younger and had a better figure as my post-pregnancy shapes do not want to vanish. Each morning I fight with my lazy self in order to do some sit-ups and basic yoga. Sometimes I do it, more often I don’t ending up in front of the computer, drinking coffee and enjoying the quiet time when everybody is still asleep. I am angry at myself because I really like yoga and I am good at it or I used to. It makes me feel wonderful, awake and alive. Seriously. At the same time I had no idea why it is so hard to JUST DO IT!

Does anybody know?!

Despite the fact that our No. 2 has slept through the night for the last several days whenever the kids go to bed I go with them because I am so tired. It hadn’t happened before. Before, when they would go down for the nap I would do all the chores around the house or blog, read a book, bake and cook. Last several days I just don’t want to do any of those things.

I just want to sleep.

At the same time I feel a burden of not blogging while at the same time taking tons of pictures EVERY SINGLE DAY. My computer is almost full and it’s time to do the clean-up, but when I think about it I get chills. I do not want to do that.

I just want to sleep.

Even now, writing the words you’re reading, I do it because I can’t think straight… I had to blog and explain everything, let it out. I think I am addicted. I know I wouldn’t be able to relax and fall asleep.

I feel like I need a resolution. The kind where I say: NO MORE TAKING PICTURES (self-portraits only) until I am done with cleaning up the mess I’ve created. Because of that I no longer want to open my PICTURES folder, and if I do that I just sit and stare at it not knowing where to start. Recipes, kids, morning flowers, evening flowers, self-portraits, bumblebees and tralalabees, stairs, spoons, chairs… you name it.

I feel like I no longer live my life just for living and enjoying it but for the purpose of taking pictures and blogging about it. I can’t just go outside without the camera and have fun, and just be. I must have it with me and I must take pictures, because when I come back and there is no picture to upload on my computer I feel like I just wasted my time. It’s like I don’t see what’s around me unless I look at the viewfinder.

and this is kind of ridiculous… .

I wasn’t sure if I really want to publish this post, but then I thought, if I make it public, I’ll more likely hold myself accountable for it. It’s like going to a rehab. I started writing this post yesterday, since then I haven’t taken a single photo and I feel terrified.

It doesn’t mean I am going to stop writing posts. I’ve got enough not used, planned to be published at some point pictures that it will last me for at least a month. Till I’m done with each and every single one I’m not going to use my camera for anything else than self-portraits and occasional shot when we  are out and about.

Before I would stop and take a picture of a flower and move on to the next one. Now I am going to stop and really smell it! (exercise more and drink more water, too) ;)

Wish me luck! :)

My kind of Heaven

I hope all of you, mothers, had a wonderful day yesterday.

Despite very harsh morning, which meant, I could have slept much longer but my husband woke me up VERY early. He didn’t know I had struggled with our Little Princess till 4:30 am. He had planned that trip much earlier and wanted to take me there really bad. At the end of the day I was actually happy he did wake me up even if I was a little mad when he did that ;)

We went to a beautiful garden (Elisabeth F. Gamble Garden in Palo Alto) with so many flower to photograph. All of them were at the peak of blooming stage. Just a wonderful place!

Despite that everyone was yawning…

… and throwing tantrums…

… in general we had a great time:

In such a beautiful place it would be a shame not to enjoy it.

Normally I’m not a big fan of photographing flowers… until I start doing it :)

Every single time we go visit a place with flowers I’m a little skeptical. I have the attitude: “Flowers? Again?” but then we get there and I take the camera out and from the start I feel like I’m in a hog heaven. Weird.

They even had something Polish :

And after I fed my soul with all that beauty there was a time to feed my body… with pear gorgonzola pizza.

The Ultimate Mother’s Day Breakfast – healthy and with love

I have never been big on gifts. For any occasion. B-day, Christmas, Women’s Day or Mother’s Day. Maybe because I grew up in a household where those things weren’t that important. My mom prefers to receive a living plant than a bunch of dead-in-a-few-days flowers. Maybe because of her I’m the same way.

But every single year no matter what we celebrated the most important thing was to be nice to the person who was celebrating her or his day.

A simple hug or a few words assuring that you remember.

So for those who still haven’t decide what to give to their mothers on Mother’s Day, I say: “make her a delicious breakfast to bed. and give her the day off”. She’ll appreciate it more than anything!

If it’s homemade and a little healthier than usual it’s even better.

Something like whole wheat buttermilk blueberry banana pancakes with turbinado sugar.

I assure you, that will make her day!

Recipe:

dry ingredients:

1 1/2 cup whole wheat pastry flour,

1 1/2 tsp. baking powder,

1 tsp. baking soda,

4 tsp. turbinado sugar,

1/4 tsp. salt,

1/4 cup flaxseed meal,

wet ingredients:

1 1/2 cup buttermilk (homemade will work great)*

2 1/2 Tbsp. butter, melted, cooled,

2 eggs,

fruit filling

1 cup fresh blueberries,

1 ripped banana, sliced

Directions:

In one bowl mix very well dry ingredients.

In second bowl mix very well wet ingredients.

Combine dry ingredients with wet. Do not overmix it. Now wait for at least 10 minutes for the batter to rest and let the baking soda and powder to start working its magic.

In the meantime heat the griddle on medium high. Melt about 1/4 Tbsp butter on it.

Sliced you banana so it’s ready to use.

When the griddle is ready spoon about 1/4 cup of the batter on it, more for bigger pancake.

Now sprinkle it with a few blueberries and sliced banana. (picture below does not show bananas because it’s from a different recipe, but you get the idea :) )

Wait until bubbles appear on the top and the batter doesn’t look runny anymore.

Flip on the other side and fried for another minute or until light brown.

Garnish with the leftover fruits, maple syrup, honey, jam, icing sugar or whipped cream… . Whatever is your mother’s favorite topping :)

I do like mine plain served with black coffee.

All-purpose flour will work if you do not have whole wheat pastry flour. You can use regular white or brown sugar in place of turbinado sugar.

I used to make them without that healthy twist before and they looked like that:

* Homemade buttermilk:

you’ll need milk and fresh lemon juice. For each cup of milk you need 1 Tbsp of lemon juice. So for this recipe you need:

1 1/2 cup of milk

1 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice (2 Tbsp. are fine, too)

Pour the lemon juice into the milk. VERY GENTLY stir just one time. Let it sit for at least 10 minutes before using.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

B-day Girl and Nola’s Iris Garden

Uff…

Finally I got a chance to sit down with a cup of my favorite green tea and write a post.

Finally, because lately  for most of the days I look like that:

Our Sleeping Beauty has changed into Not So Sleepy or Sleeping Only When You Hold Me and If You’re Not I Scream Beauty. I can’t decide what’s better: me worrying all day long about her not eating and loosing weight or her being such a needy Little Stinker. My poor back is hurting me terribly because not only that she doesn’t sleep much BUT she eats a lot which means she gets heavier and heavier each day. In addition it’s really hard to have anything done around the house.

So, this is what’s happening with our No 2.

Last week our No 1. turned 2. We have a small family celebration at Chuck E. Cheese’s. She loved it and I was happy I didn’t have to bake or cook anything that day.

On Saturday we went to THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON EARTH:

Nola’s Iris Garden!!!

The thing is that I really don’t care about Irises. I think they are not that pretty or interesting as flowers.

BUT

For me that place is magical. I wrote about it last year when we visited it for the first time.

It’s magical maybe because while I do not like irises this place full of them is my favorite place. I haven’t found anything better than that.

Maybe I like it so much because this is how I would want to live. On a farm, with a few horses and cows and chickens running around. I want to have a  place full of dogs. I want to have gardens.

This place looks like that only for a few weeks while the irises bloom. For the rest of the year the owners support themselves by selling bulbs and grass-fed cows (for meat, of course). They do rent horses as well.

This young creature was abandoned by its mother after birth and the owners had fed him from the bottle for a while. Now she is on a mixed diet: grass + grains. It’s an experiment as normally those people have only grass-fed cows this time they want to see if feeding her with grains will make a change in the taste of the meat. Yes, this cute thing is going to end up in our food chain in a near future.

Scattered Horizons

Last year our daughter was barely walking when we visited this place. This year she was everywhere. It was hard to stop her from running all over those flowers. It was like she was on a sugar rush.

From time to time she would lost her chips. Myself I do believe in a rule of not having many rules when it comes to eating from the floor. So while she was cleaning up the mess she made I was watching my husband’s “a little bit concerned face”. Nope, we do not agree on many things. Eating from the floor is one of them but anytime it’s not his food we’re talking about (picking from the floor) he let it go ;)

(And that’s why he stopped watching me cooking in the kitchen. He was simply afraid that if he continues to do that he wouldn’t want to eat what I cook.)

Anyway, our daughter strongly believe that what fell on the floor is as good as something what is on the plate (or in a  bag in this case).

There is all kinds of small sculptures placed all over the garden and I love it.

So for now I’ll leave you all here. My quiet, dreamy time came to the end.

Have a great evening, my friends!

irises

Beautiful irises and their funny names

As I promised in yesterday’s post today will be all about irises and their names. Funny names.

IRIS from Greek means “rainbow“. Iris was a messenger-goddess who rode rainbows between heaven and earth to deliver messages from Olympus :) Interesting.

As I said yesterday, I’m not a big fan of those flowers. Maybe because they bloom only once a year and for not very long, but visiting Nola’s Iris Garden I found for myslef one veriety that I fell in love with:

Some of them if you know what they mean could be used as a letter/message to somebody. Like those three belowe.

It’s actually a pretty neat idea, I think!

Some of the sound like a movie or a song title :)

That would be it for today. Tomorrow more of the Nola’s Iris Garden, a few horses and a cow :)

Visitin Nola’s Iris Garden

My attempt to garden photography starts with this post :)

Last Sunday we went to Nola’s Iris Garden. All of us. Even doggy! We’re always happy when “dogs are allowed “:) Over there I took too many pictures to put them into one post. I know I could not to post so many pictures, but it’s impossible. That place is amazing and I want to share every single corner of it.

I still, can’t get over how beautiful that place is. It’s the best place we’ve visited in San Jose so far. I’m not sure if my husband thinks the same way. He is not that crazy about the irises. Me neither. So? I’m not a big fan of those flowers but you should see that place. You don’t have to love them to fall in love in this place.

But liking or not I’ve found and fell in love in one variety which I’m gonna get someday.

They’ve got thousands of varieties of irises so there is a bit of walking around and looking at :) This iris garden is the biggest display and grower in the Bay Area. They are open to the public during the blooming season. I’m not so sure how long is that. I think from April till the end of May.

Some of their names are really funny like “well endowed” which meant nothing to me until my husband explained it…hmm… you’ve got to be really out of inspiration to name a plant/flower like that.

My next post will be all about the names (I won’t post thousands of photos, don’t worry) and irises itself.

You’ve got to be careful on the way up there… why?! because of cyclist behaving badly… more likely because of the exhausted cyclists, and not behaving badly. You know, when you’re on you bike going up the VERY steep road, and you are about a half the way… you think: I can do it, I can do it, I can do it… I won’t get off, I won’t get off… If I make it I’m gonna eat the entire box of the ice cream waiting at the house, and the chocolate, and pasta, and the cake!!! everything!!! If I don’t make it I’m not gonna eat them! Nothing! I am strong! I am the best! I am strong, I’m the best! ICE CREAM! CHOCOLATE!!! CAKE!!! I am strong! I can do it! … and so on…

You muscles hurt, you have to stand up to be able to pedal, you’re soo INSIDE YOUR HEAD TALKING TO YOURSELF and actually you don’t see that you’re riding all over that damned road, from the right to the left and back. Behind you there is a line of drivers scared to pass you, pissed! I’ve been there I’ve done that.

Sooo beautiful!

Speaking about bicycles. This tiny one…

…stands there among the cut irises.

and they’ve got a doggy, too.

One cool motorcycle.

… and even coolest old car…

Oops! couldn’t help myself. Had to snap some reflected me ;)

Painting Red Lady. I’m not surprised that people go there to get inspiration! Really!

While walking around you can get some free coffee and cookies. they were already out when we got there. damn!

… and if you want to help, you’re more than welcome…

They’ve got more than irises over there… There are horses, and cows which I’ll post pictures of later.

Hope everybody had a good Memorial Weekend.

Hugs from my corner.

If I should have a daughter…

  – what do you think!?

I would’ve let her sit with me in a booth in a restaurant. No high chair would’ve been needed.

Mommy and Me Monday at Really, Are You Serious?

I would’ve been sooo embarrased about her making such a big mess that I if I could’ve I would ask the weitress to bring me a cloth and a broom to clean everything up before we would’ve left. It’s crazy how messy so small human being can get!!! I said: If I could’ve, because as simple as that might sound it’s not. My husband wouldn’t let me do that!!! Forget about it ;-)

and at the end my Spring (for Happy Monday Photo Challenge) and Flower (Shot and Edit SOOC) shots.

this one is a pretty new shot. and nop.. it’s not what you think… this picture hasn’t been edited yet. it’s just my crazy lens.

The rest are from two weeks ago, and I didn’t have the chance to post them (till today) :-)

btw, do you have any idea how to pronounce “sarcococca”!!?

Happy Monday everybody!

Sunday’s flowers on Monday

our yesterday visit to the nearest nursery…

Everybody is feeling better so we went for a nice flower-full walk… it was a little bit chilly outside, but those few good shots, and I think it was worth it.

Just so you know what’s going to be here tomorrow…

Homemade banana pie with homemade vanilla wafers…

It’s chilling in the fridge… and I can’t wait to taste it… Keep your fingers crossed… I had been making it for almost all day today… It MUST be good!

and it looks something like this one:

oh… wait… it is the one I baked today. Ok… read (see) more tomorrow :-)

So called “art”

Was trying out my so called “macro”.lol
It didn’t turn out well… The light was not right (I hate using built-in flash), my hands were shaking, and everything was not right…
Believe me or not the flower is very pretty. I don’t what the hell it is.
It bloomed all the sudden on our patio… I didn’t see any buds, or more likely I just wasn’t looking – that what it is… :-)

I added some “softglow” and “bluriness”, and called it good :-)
