Crochet basket

Every time I come across something what seems to be easy for me to make I do not think what kind of yarn I have to use in order to get the exact final effect as on the picture in front of me. Sometimes it doesn’t matter. Sometimes it does! It did matter this time. I saw a picture (that one below) and I really liked it. I looked at the pattern and I got all excited because it’s very easy! I thought: I’m gonna make it !

<————— This is how it looked

When you look at mine, it’s totally different!

I wasn’t thinking that to make it I need specific yarn. Thicker and more able to stand on its own. The one I had and used for this basket is really light and not so good to support itself. Somewhere in the middle of making this basket I new mine won’t look like the one I wanted to make. As a new to crocheting and still learning stuff I’d decided to keep making it. Just for the practice.

While still “practicing” ๐Ÿ™‚ I got an idea. Yep… it happens sometimes! ๐Ÿ™‚ Instead, I thought, I might try to make something different. I took one of our plant pot and put inside the unfinished project I’d been making. It fit perfectly. Hm… almost! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve decided I’ll finish it as a cover for that pot.ย  In order to do that I changed a little that pattern. Instead of making that extra fold on the top of this basket I did something different. In the last 4 row I decreased the amount of sc instead of increasing it. That way my basket would hold on to the edges of my pot and not going down. When you look at that pattern you’ll know what I’m talking about.

If you’re interested in pattern for the basket I WANTED to make you can download pdf file here:

I found it at Chickpea Sewing Studio.

My basket it’s an awesome idea to cover ugly looking pot, and make it to look pretty and interesting!

Crochet camera strap cover

I know, I repeat myself over and over, but… I made this cover with no pattern. I would like to be more patient with writing it down as I go but I am not… .

Just for those who might be interested in making it I’m going to try to explain how I made it. Just give me some time to go through the cover one more time and I’ll be back with pattern. I can promise you right now, that’s soooo easy to make and soooooo hard to put on! lol. Seriously!

Right now I’m soo exhausted I can barely keep my eyes open. New very loud, just moved in, neighbors… That’s what it is. Grrr… . I hope it’s because they’re settling in… I really hope so!

I posted it because I just couldn’t wait to share it. I am so excited I made it ๐Ÿ™‚ When I started making it,ย out of boredom I didn’t know I’m gonna love it so much. This cover is awesome. My camera feels so comfortable around my neck like it’s never before. Before I tried it on today I almost never worn the camera on my neck. Those days are over ๐Ÿ™‚

Pattern for camera (nikon D5000) strap cover:

hook G 6 – 4.25 mm

chain 8,

row 1: sc in second ch from hook and sc in every ch till the end, join with sl st to form a ring,

row 2: ch 1, 1sc in first sc, 1sc in every sc around, do not join

row 3: 1 sc in every sc around

repeat until you reach the length of the narrow part of the camera belt.

From there:

row 1: 1sc in first sc, 1sc in second sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1, 1,

row 2: 1 sc in first sc, 2sc in second, 1sc , 1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc, 1sc, 1sc,

row 3: 1sc in first sc, 2 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 2sc, 1sc, 1sc, 2 sc.

row 4: 1sc in first sc, 2 sc, 1 sc, 2sc, 1sc, 2sc, 1sc, 2 sc.

it should look something like that ๐Ÿ™‚

next (blue part on the drawing below):

1 sc in every sc around for about 4 rows

red part:

*hdc in first sc, 1 ch, skip next sc, hdc in next sc, 1 ch* repeat for one row

next row – *hdc, 1 ch* repeat around every hdc until you get to almost the end of the wider part of your camera strap

blue part:

1 sc in every sc around for about 4 rows

black part:

row 1: 1sc in first sc, 2 sc, 1 sc, 1sc, 2sc, 1sc, 1sc, 2 sc.

row 2: 1 sc in first sc, 2sc in second, 1sc , 1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc, 1sc, 1sc,

row 3: 1sc in first sc, 1sc in second sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1, 1,

row 4: 1sc in first sc, 1sc in second sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1, 1,

repeat row 4 till the end (depends on how long you camera strap is)

I made that part while the cover was already on my strap and my tip is: if you making that cover do it around your camera strap. that way you can see where to increase or decrease stitches as you go, and you won’t have to struggle (as I did), to put it on after its’ made.

Selfie Saturday with Elena

Took this photo a few weeks ago, but I thought it’s good for Elena’s this week theme – “Light”.

Picture below was taken a few days ago as well as this one.

(linking up with Life-n-Reflection – Texture Twist)

My last picture was taken today while taking pictures of my new crochet creation – belt for the camera or I should say cover for the belt. I’m loving that cover! It’s so awesome I can’t believe I made that ๐Ÿ™‚ Seriously. With not pattern. I am not such a big thinker when it comes to stuff like that. I just do it and at the end I almost always end up with something that doesn’t work, or is too small or too big, etc. This time it works, lucky me but, gosh it was hard to put it on.

All those pictures were taken with very poor light, and with 500 ISO (the last one had 400 iso). That’s why they are so grainy. I kinda like it. I used to be so terribly afraid of big ISO. Today my ISO almost never go below 350 and I’m really happy with my pictures. I feel like I’ve discovered my style, and I feel pretty good about it.

Blossom Crochet Bracelet

I’m pretty upset today for what happened yesterday to my post @World Moms Blog. I was actually criticised for being honest and for trying to explain MY CULTURE (my language). I know I might have been too honest and to rough with the term I used BUT we are all adults and we should be able to talk openly and freely about things that are different and not comfortable to talk about. Nevermind… .

Today I’ll be quick because I do not feel like I want to have anything to do with the Internet and people.

First of all I want to thank you SJ @Home Maker on a Dime. She featured me for my crochet necklace. My mood is already better ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday I finished my new(est) crochet creation. I made it from the mixed patterns that I used for my three previous crochet things. I know that they are actually all the same color (and very similar patterns), but I’ve got those yarns and I do not want to buy more before I finish those that I have. At the same time, whatever I make it matches ๐Ÿ™‚

The belt:

CH 33
Row 1: Linked TR in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th ch from hook, Linked TR in each remaining ch across, CH 1, turn
Row 2: SC in first 2 TR, Ch 3, sk 3 TR, (button hole made) SC in ea remaining TR, CH 4, turn
Row 3: Linked TR in each SC across to button hole, 3 Linked TR in button hole, Linked TR in last 2 SC, CH 1,

3 sc in the next stich and every stich around (Your work will start to “ruffle”) if it’s too much you can make 2 sc instead of 3. Joining with SL sc.

Fasten off

For the Flower and budd I used this pattern – crochet necklace (pdf file) from the necklace I made the other day.

For the button I use this pattern:

Start a magic ring leaving a long tail for sewing.

1. SC 10 into the magic ring, join with a SL ST to first SC to close circle.
2. Pull the tail left for sewing tight to close the magic ring and tie a knot at the base so that the ring does not expand.
3. CH 1,Work 2 sc in the next sc and every sc thereafter… SL ST to CH 1 to close. Tie off and weave in this end but leave the long tail unwoven so that you can attach the button wherever you need it.

(my base for this pattern was this one).

Sew everything to the places where you want it to be. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great weekend, everybody! I hope that this time I won’t offend anybody because I do not celebrate 4th of July as Americans don’t celebrate 11th of November (or … wait… maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned that!) ๐Ÿ˜‰

My new passion is being born – Crochet Necklace

My new passion is being born and you’re witnessing it.

As you probably noticed by now the last week or so I’ve been busy… crocheting. :)Years ago my mom and my sister together showed me how to make a single, double and half double stitch… . Since then, from what I remember I’ve made (from the beginning to the end) one thing. A blanket. Many time I would start doing something just to leave it in the middle. I don’t know why. Maybe because some of those projects were boring (like blankets, or winter scarf). Most of those patterns I saw where too complicated and I thought I don’t have the time to just sit and figure it out. I was young(er) and silly(ier) ๐Ÿ˜‰ …

… and the last thing I would think about was to sit at home and crochet… lol.ย

When I found the pattern for those necklace I decided to give it a try. It didn’t look very complicated – and as you’ll see if you try it on your own – IT’S NOT. Today after I finished this project I’ve decided to make matching bracelet and earings. I’m almost done with the bracelet… but not sure what to do for earings. Buds or blossoms?! ๐Ÿ™‚

For those who are interested you can download the pattern for the necklace here:

buds and blossoms crochet necklace (pdf file)

I didn’t use beads (to stuff the crochet buds) as it says in the directions but instead I rolled the yarn in a small ball and I used it for “stuffing”. Worked great, but… I broke two tapestry needles while trying to thread the cord (chain) through the stuffed buds… . They were plastic, so today I bought a metal one and it worked perfect.

Crochet bracelet – discovering my hidden talents ;)

My next project from the series:ย in front of the tv watchingPrison Break“. 5 last episodes. Good!

A few days ago I made a scarf, and yesterday I finished a matching bracelet. I already am in love it that piece ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s really cute.

I used beer bracelet pattern. I didn’t have any spare buttons so I crocheted two using a pattern from Beat Knitting.ย

ย Now it’s time for matching earings … ๐Ÿ˜‰

Back to crocheting: Very Easy Scarf

So, after having an art show with somebody who crochets and knits like crazy I got inspired ๐Ÿ™‚ (THANKS BASIA!!!!!!)

I am not a knitter ๐Ÿ˜‰ nor a crocheter ๐Ÿ˜‰ I would say… I know the basics. In addition I like doing something else while watching tv. Lately we’ve been watching “Prison Break” on Netflix and as I really enjoyed the first two seasons now I can’t JUST watch it without doing something else… . It’s gotten a bit too ridiculous. So, I’ve decided to use the rest of my yarn that’s been laying with no purpose at the house. The last time I used it was more than a year ago… I made a blanket for our daughter while she was still “in the oven”.

I was looking for something very easy since I actually know the basics. Right?! And I found it: Spring Frills Scarf (awesome blog with great and easy patterns!) that in my opinion could be used as a belt, as well but, I’ll understand if you don’t agree with me ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday Snapshot

At the beginning I was gooffing off using this scarf as a belt, but after a few adjusts it looked like it might work. In addition I’m not very comfortable in front of the camera. Showing off my legs… lol… that almost never happens – at all… lol… and here I am…

and getting a little bit brave(er) with the camera ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m planning to make a matching bracelet but not today. Today is a headache day! Can’t focuse at all… .
