Fresh Ginger-Fruit Tea

I am not a water drinker. I love coffee and tea. I need flavor.
Last summer, for example I had been drinking LEMON CUCUMBER (or LEMON RASPBERRIES) water and that worked just fine for me. This year I am trying a new discovery.

Fresh ginger.

I call it a “tea” because it requires boiling water.
It takes little time before it’s ready but the waiting is definitely worth it.

So far I have made those flavors:

strawberry ginger

blueberry ginger

lemon ginger

peach/nectarine ginger

and my favorite it strawberry and peach, but actually they are all delicious.
As I am writing it a raspberry ginger tea is brewing on the counter 🙂

This recipe is pretty strong in flavor so if you’re not accustom to ginger, you might want to cut the amount of ginger in half and try it that way first.

I make them in “ready-to-drink-from” jars

Because of that it’s good to pour just a little of the boiling water on the bottom of the jars and wait a minute or so. If you don’t do that, and pour full jar of boiling water the glass will most likely crack.

waiting… just a minute or so… not too long…

patiently waiting an hour or so before moving it to the fridge.

BEFORE MOVING IT TO THE FRIDGE ADD HONEY!!!

It should sit in the fridge until it’s completely chilled or overnight. The longer it sits the stronger the flavor.

Shake it well before drinking!

Have a good one, everybody!

Delicious creaminess: avocado-spinach-cucumber smoothie

Fast and easy with not a lot to prepare before and to clean after… . That is my motto these days if it comes to food. If it tastes delicious it’s even better 😉

Having this motto in my mind I came up with a super delicious and creamy avocado-spinach-cucumber smoothie. I had no idea how good cucumberis for us and how much freshness it brings when blended into a smoothie.

Yesterday I fixed myself this smoothie for dinner.

I’m trying to lose my extra pounds that are seem to hold on to me for dear life. No wonder… if you look at those pictures below you’ll see not only the smoothie but a fresh-baked apple pie. I say, if it’s made with brown sugar and whole wheat flour it means it’s good for me and I feel less guilty eating it, untill I look at the mirror… .

btw, it’s a kid friendly dish with no questions asked.

Anyway,

I ate a whole jar of that smoothie and after I finished it I was THAT close to make another one but then I thought: “pie or another jar of smoothie”. Pie won.

This morning I couldn’t wait to fix myself the same smoothie with a few changes.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup vanilla yogurt, (plain will do just fine, but using it you may want to add more honey or dates) *

1 big orange

1 avocado

1/2 medium english cucumber,

BIG handful spinach

2 Tbsp honey (or more, if you like) **

* if it’s too thick add a smal amount of pineapple juice (or whatever juice you like)

** the second time (today) I made it using dates (about 12) instead of the honey. Liked it better with the honey.

Blend it all together until creamy and smooth. It will take more time to get that consistency if you’re using dates. That’s why I didn’t like it that much as with honey because I ended up with very small, not blended very well pieces of dates in my smoothie.

… and that’s how we were working today in order to take those delicious pictures 😉

The weather is just gorgeous here, perfect for a green and refreshing treat like this smoothie!

Iced Inka & Milk Drink

I don’t know if that happened to you, but it happened to me twice.

First time when I got coffee maker. Before, I used to drink a la Turkish coffee and I was just fine. I was saying that I actually don’t need a coffee maker. After I got it I though: how could I lived for soooo long without it?!

The same happened this year. I feel like I’m happy with what I have, speaking about my kitchen tools. I mean, I need this or that, but at the end I always can go around and find a substitute if I’m missing one or two things (like, for example cookie cutter). I think everybody does that.

Till now, when (which these days means “every day”) I wanted a smoothie I would use my blender. This poor thing blends and chops almost anything for me.

NOT ANYMORE.

Now I have “frozen treat & drink maker”. To not to sound like I’m writing a review for which I got paid (I didn’t) I will just say it’s called Ninja and I love it. I don’t know how I could lived without a mixer like that for so many years 😉

A few days ago when I made a smoothie it actually looked and tasted like ice cram. Gosh… so good!

Today for breakfast, I fixed myself something I call “Iced Inka Milk Drink”… with whipped cream and chocolate on top(!!!!). That’s right – for breakfast.

What’s Inka?

This is Inka:

old picture from my archives

Simply it tastes like coffee. Not quite the same but very similar.

Iced Inka Milk Drink:

Ice cubes of milk and inka (equal amount of each). I used 12 small cubes of each.

Blend it together adding a little bit of not frozen milk.

Topped with whipped cream and shredded chocolate.

And the whole world just stopped turning for a few minutes.

Me, my breakfast and an interesting email… .

…and if you remember me talking about my daughter sleeping with almost all her teddy bears (toys) and books – here is the evidence:
