Cocoa Butter Coffee Lotion with a hint of grapefruit juice

It feels even better!

I got very happy when I saw on Rebbeca’s Soap Deli News that she is talking about my coffee body lotion. Thanks a lot! It made me even happier when I saw my crochet camera strap cover being featured at J&M Eye Candy.

Back to my coffee lotion.

I just ran out of it and yesterday I made new jar. This time with cocoa butter and grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed) !

To those who made it, or want to try to make it – forget about my previous recipes, because I just made THE BEST COFFEE COCOA BUTTER (with grapefruit juice) body lotion EVER!!!!!!

Actually, I almost didn’t make it, or should say I almost failed to make it. It was my first time I was making lotion with cocoa butter. It didn’t want to thicken. I had to fix it and come up with new measurements. Now, proudly I can share it with you.

Yesterday I made a few changes that made all the difference. I added:

  • 3 tbs of cocoa butter and I melted it all together with e. wax and almond oil over double bath,
  • instead of using 1 1/2 cup of coffee I used 1 1/4 cup plus 1/4 cup of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (NO, THIS LOTION IS NOT STICKY because of that juice. It’s perfectly smooth and very creamy! )
  • I added the juice to the mixture after it cooled down a little, all together with vitamin E, and essential/fragrance oils (grapefruit essential oil and amber rose fragrance)

This lotion is AMAZING! After you use it you won’t need any perfumes! Seriously. It smells a little bit like coffee (not too much though) but the cocoa butter added delicate sweet scent to it, and it’s much better than my previous lotions. My skin is soooooo soft!


Grapefruits are high in the carotenoid phytonutrient lycopene. Lycopene provides your skin with strong antioxidant protection against environmental damage. Lycopene has the highest capacity to help fight oxygen free radicals among the common dietary carotenoids. Lycopene also strengthens skin and helps to prevent wrinkles by enhancing its ability to produce collagen and reducing DNA damage.
Raw grapefruit contains the skin-cleansing enzyme, bromelain. This enzyme is found in the peel. Try rubbing the inside of the peel against your face as a cleanser. Bromelain also helps to reduce inflammation. Rubbing the peel over itchy inflamed skin, psoriasis or mosquito bites can help to alleviate the itching. Grapefruit drops are also available that will provide the same benefits when applied to your skin.
Grapefruit stimulates the circulation, tightens the skin and diminishes the cellulite.
One of the most beneficial ingredients in coffee is its caffeine. Just as drinking coffee wakes up your nervous system, it has also been shown to “wake up” the skin. Many anti-aging creams and moisturizers contain caffeine as an active ingredient for its anti-inflammatory qualities. Researchers at the Seoul National University reported in a 1981 study that caffeine reduces inflammation almost as well as aspirin. Coffee has also been added to many body scrubs to diminish the appearance of cellulite. In a 2007 study at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, researchers reported that topical creams containing caffeine decreased hip diameter in almost 70 percent of the subjects over one month.

Overall, use of skin care products containing caffeine will reduce and prevent inflammation and redness, leaving you with a beautiful, even skin tone.


Those who had or have used PALMER’s cocoa butter formula know how good it is for you skin. Especially when you’re pregnant, or after being pregnant. It has many more benefits.

Yesterday I went even further using my coffee. Instead of throwing out those used coffee grounds I made coffee sugar body scrub.

My recipe calls for:

whatever coffee grounds you’ve got left (in this case it was about 3/4 cup),

about 3/4 cup sugar

2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 cup fresh grapefruit juice (you can add olive oil instead)

This body scrub is very messy!!!

Used coffee filter went straight to my husband’s worm’s. YES, he keeps worms on our patio. It looks pretty gross. Mh… tell me more about it but, despite that look it’s nothing more than our food waste, coffee grounds, used tea bags, dirt from vacuum cleaner and shredded paper. The dark brownish matter is the soil… almost ready to be used. Few more weeks and we will be using it in our pots 🙂

This time I went totally green making this lotion  🙂 I’m happy about that!  As well, my husband should be proud of me that I take such a good care of his worms.  We used to fight about a few things that go along with having your own worm composting set up. A few months ago we compromised to a few things and it works since. It works really good! I feed his worms, he takes care of the rest of it. He acutally takes a very good care of it.

Buttermilk Herbs Pizza Dough

So far I’ve made many pizzas using many different recipes. Different recipes but actually the same. Flour, water, yeast, olive oil, salt just the measurements were not the same.

The last time I made pizza I made it with buttermilk and I loved it!

Homemade tomato sauce:

  • 1 can (14.5oz) of diced tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 vegetable bouillon cube
  • spices/or not (whatever you like)

Simmer it on very low for about 45 minutes. This recipe will make enough sauce for 4 medium size pizzas.

Buttermilk Pizza Dough

  • 3/4 Cup Buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 1/4 Tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 package Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 Cups Bread Flour (start with 2 cups and add more if needed!!!!!!)
  • golden lemon thyme
  • basil

Heat up 1/2 water plus 2tbsp, add sugar. In this water dissolve 1 package of yeast. Place flour in bowl of electric mixer. Add dissolved yeast, oil, buttermilk, baking soda, and salt.

Using dough hook, mix well at medium-low speed until all ingredients are incorporated. Increase speed to high and mix dough for 4 to 5 minutes.

Add about 2 tsp lemon thyme and chopped basil. Knead just to incorporate those herbs to the dough.

Dust or oil dough ball and place in a large bowl, and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm, draft free place for 1 to 3 hours.

I do not have kitchen aid, so I knead the dough with my hands for about 10 minutes. Works perfect!!!

This recipe will make 4 medium size well rolled (very thin) pizzas.

First goes tomato sauce. Second cheese. Third all the veggies you like with (or without) whatever meat you like.

Bake for 25 minutes in 375 F.

Crochet basket

Every time I come across something what seems to be easy for me to make I do not think what kind of yarn I have to use in order to get the exact final effect as on the picture in front of me. Sometimes it doesn’t matter. Sometimes it does! It did matter this time. I saw a picture (that one below) and I really liked it. I looked at the pattern and I got all excited because it’s very easy! I thought: I’m gonna make it !

When you look at mine, it’s totally different!

I wasn’t thinking that to make it I need specific yarn. Thicker and more able to stand on its own. The one I had and used for this basket is really light and not so good to support itself. Somewhere in the middle of making this basket I new mine won’t look like the one I wanted to make. As a new to crocheting and still learning stuff I’d decided to keep making it. Just for the practice.

While still “practicing” 🙂 I got an idea. Yep… it happens sometimes! 🙂 Instead, I thought, I might try to make something different. I took one of our plant pot and put inside the unfinished project I’d been making. It fit perfectly. Hm… almost! 🙂 I’ve decided I’ll finish it as a cover for that pot.  In order to do that I changed a little that pattern. Instead of making that extra fold on the top of this basket I did something different. In the last 4 row I decreased the amount of sc instead of increasing it. That way my basket would hold on to the edges of my pot and not going down. When you look at that pattern you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Do you like your neighbours?!

I DON’T!!!!

It’s midnight, for a few days now, we’ve been trying to go to bed earlier than usual. We try to get up earlier just to feel better in general, and to have more things done during the day.

Again, it’s midnight. Later than we had planned (because of “The Proposal“) we’re in bed. I’m really tired but I can’t sleep. I can’t even hear my own thoughts because of the neighbours upstairs – walking back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Imagine studio apartment (11 feet by 20 feet) right above our bedroom. HOW MUCH Of FREAKING WALKING DO YOU HAVE TO DO at 1 am living in a place like that ?!!?!?! Maybe somebody can explain that to me because I can’t understand!

It’s 0:30 am – nothing has changes. I can hear my daughter waking up because of all that noises they are making upstairs. It’s so annoying. I’m laying in bed thinking that the two last nights it was ok, they were moving in. Tonight it’s unacceptable. I’m thinking if I should go there and tell them something, anything, to stop walking, to start flying … I don’t know … maybe I should politely asked them if they don’t mind to go to freaking sleep!!?! So I’m laying patiently making friends with my anger. I am a nice woman. I don’t do things like that. My husband does, but at this point he is asleep, or pretending he is!

It’s 5 am. Something woke me up. Can’t say what that was but I’m awake at that point, listening. Of course, what would that be? Our neighbours! It seems like they are jumping upstairs! They’re not walking. They running back and forth. BAM BAM BAM!!! Every single step!!! BAM BAM BAM!!! I’m afraid in a few minutes the ceiling will land on us. My husband got up, went outside and a minute after that he came back just to ask me: “What should I tell them?“. I thought, I would say: “Are you f****** out of you mind? All night long?! If you won’t stop right now I’m going to cut your legs off. With a kitchen knife. It’s the only sharp thing I have at the house and I won’t ask my husband to give me any of his tools because I don’t want him to be accused of anything because he might lose his job here“! 🙂 What do you think! Would that work?! Or maybe: “You know what save yourself the energy and the time and stop unpacking because YOU’RE MOVING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

I know I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer (as I was once told… thank you very much!) but… people! how much brain does it take to know that YOU SHOULD BE A LITTLE BIT QUIETER at night because NORMAL people sleep at that time!

At 6 am our Little Daughter woke up, sick, and tired, and hungry… and grumpy! as we all! At that point I am IN RAGE! By 8:00 am I had bathroom and patio cleaned, and plum cake baking in the oven! It was time to clean the kitchen floor! And there I am! scrubbing the floor!

When I’m angry I clean. When I clean on my knees, scrubbing every single spot at 8:00 am it means DON’T TALK TO ME, DON’T LOOK AT ME, DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT TALKING OR LOOKING AT ME!!!

In between the floors I had my coffee. In the jar! Why not! People can’t respect other’s people lives so why can’t I have my coffee in a jar? 🙂


As for right now I hate my neighbours and the only thing that could change it is NOT TO HAVE ANY!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Today’s items  for Scavenger Hunt Sunday are:

1. Music to my ears.

Every morning our sprinklers are turn on and I can hear them from our apartment. I love that sound because it reminds me that it’s Summer, and that it’s morning and it’s time to start the day 🙂

After a while, when I go outside there is plenty of droplets on every single plant. It’s great!

2. Hat

Pretty soon there will be blog post about hats and only hats. Blue, and brown, yellow and green… Hats Hats Hats. Crochet Hats.

3. Clear

Our swimming pool, and clear water!

Succulent and a little bit of editing! 🙂

5. Sprinkles

I do not have any sprinkles or anything that’s similar to it, but I thought I use that shot of rolled pieces of newspaper. It kind of look like sprinkles (only huge ones). Right!? :/   (lol)

Crochet camera strap cover

I know, I repeat myself over and over, but… I made this cover with no pattern. I would like to be more patient with writing it down as I go but I am not… .

Just for those who might be interested in making it I’m going to try to explain how I made it. Just give me some time to go through the cover one more time and I’ll be back with pattern. I can promise you right now, that’s soooo easy to make and soooooo hard to put on! lol. Seriously!

Right now I’m soo exhausted I can barely keep my eyes open. New very loud, just moved in, neighbors… That’s what it is. Grrr… . I hope it’s because they’re settling in… I really hope so!

I posted it because I just couldn’t wait to share it. I am so excited I made it 🙂 When I started making it, out of boredom I didn’t know I’m gonna love it so much. This cover is awesome. My camera feels so comfortable around my neck like it’s never before. Before I tried it on today I almost never worn the camera on my neck. Those days are over 🙂

Pattern for camera (nikon D5000) strap cover:

hook G 6 – 4.25 mm

chain 8,

row 1: sc in second ch from hook and sc in every ch till the end, join with sl st to form a ring,

row 2: ch 1, 1sc in first sc, 1sc in every sc around, do not join

row 3: 1 sc in every sc around

repeat until you reach the length of the narrow part of the camera belt.

From there:

row 1: 1sc in first sc, 1sc in second sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1, 1,

row 2: 1 sc in first sc, 2sc in second, 1sc , 1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc, 1sc, 1sc,

I made that part while the cover was already on my strap and my tip is: if you making that cover do it around your camera strap. that way you can see where to increase or decrease stitches as you go, and you won’t have to struggle (as I did), to put it on after its’ made.

My last picture was taken today while taking pictures of my new crochet creation – belt for the camera or I should say cover for the belt. I’m loving that cover! It’s so awesome I can’t believe I made that 🙂 Seriously. With not pattern. I am not such a big thinker when it comes to stuff like that. I just do it and at the end I almost always end up with something that doesn’t work, or is too small or too big, etc. This time it works, lucky me but, gosh it was hard to put it on.

All those pictures were taken with very poor light, and with 500 ISO (the last one had 400 iso). That’s why they are so grainy. I kinda like it. I used to be so terribly afraid of big ISO. Today my ISO almost never go below 350 and I’m really happy with my pictures. I feel like I’ve discovered my style, and I feel pretty good about it.

When is the right time to start teaching your kid manners?!

A few months ago I read blog post @ Classy Chaos, where it was mentioned that spoon feeding isn’t a common parenting practice in the United States. American moms don’t do that? Is that right?! So, what’s not American in feeding your baby with a spoon!? Is it about how to teach them to be independent right from the start? Do American infants bake chocolate cookies and apple pies, as well?! I know that’s pain in butt to unteach them to not to be fed by the  parent anymore… but still… what do you feed your baby when it’s a few months old, and you don’t use a spoon?!

I’m just curious because these day’s I’m going through really tough times of teaching my daughter how to use a spoon and not to play with the food.

I’ve spoon feed my daughter since she was about 7 months old. She is almost 15 months and I still do that. She can eat by herself when she wants to. Most of the time her feeding style looks like that, though:

When I put plate in front of her she eats from it for a few minutes, after that she moves the food on the table and starts to eat from the table instead the plate. After a while she starts splashing and smashing and doing everything else but not eating it. All the food lands on the floor, on our dog, on me, sometimes on the walls. For the last two weeks I’ve tried to let her feed herself with the spoon. She doesn’t get that. I’m so frustrating every single time I sit to feed her. I used to work as a nanny for TWINS. From what I remember when they were 15 months they could feed themselves pretty good, and I can’t remember how I did that!!! I taught them how to use the spoon, but I can’t do that with my own child!!! Almost every single time when I let her use the spoon me and her end up in the shower. We are both covered from head to toe in food. Literally. If that’s not enough my husband just asked me when we should start teaching her manners. You know… like… when we should start teaching her that it’s not ok to play with her food, and it’s not ok to throw plates on the floor, etc. I know I let her to do that, and now I’m going to pay for that. I let her play with food thinking it’s cute and funny. The answer to my husband’s questions is… we shouldn’t let her be doing it right from the start.

But after a few times I got tired of saying: No, No, No… Don’t do that… No… Don’t… Nooooooooooo…. Pleaseee…. Nooo… .

Now we are both tired of her being such a messy eater. I mean he is tired of WATCHING her being such a messy eater. I am tired of cleaning the floor, table, myself, and my daughter 3 times (or more) a day. On the other hand the only thing I want to is to take the spoon in my hand and do not let her touch anything what looks like a spoon, or food until she is 10!!!

I don’t want that post to be so depressing and all about how tired I am of my Little One. I am, that’s for sure but which mother is not at some point?!

I just keep remind to myself that not so happy messy feeding times happen only 3 times a day. Happy dancing times and “yoga poses” times happen almost every hour or so. 🙂

Those happy times make up for those not so happy and frustrating times. When I watch her playing and dancing all the frustration and anger goes away, and I do not remember it anymore… until the next feeding time (sigh!!!)

Plum cake you can’t NOT like!

A few days ago I got fresh plums. A whole bag. I like plums and I can eat them fresh. My husband doesn’t like them but, he promised to tried a plum cake. I knew he is not going to like it. This cake reminds me of my first cake I baked for him… He didn’t like it at all. It was jabłecznik (Polish apple pie). I was terrified. How could you not like apple pie!?!? That time I couldn’t make “american” apple pie, and I thought: apple pie is the same everywhere. I couldn’t be more wrong! These days if I make a new cake, something that I have never baked before, I make it in 9 inch pan. That way if he doesn’t like it I don’t end up with bunch of cake to eat by myself.

How big was my surprise when he ate the piece I gave him, and said: I loved it! Seriously. I did!

This cake is VERY EASY and FAST to make. You need to know that as much as I like to bake or cook I don’t like stuff that’s expensive to make, it’s complicated to make, has too many ingredients, etc.

So, this is the recipe:


1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup oil (olive oil)

2 small eggs

In a mixing bowl mix all those ingredients together

Use about 10 medium size plums.

Cut them into medium size pieces and cover the dough. Actually you can use more plums and cover it more than in the picture below. This cake is very good but when the dough rises it seems like those plums are lost, so the next time I make it I’ll use more plums.

For the topping I use:

1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup butter/margarine

Cut butter into flour and sugar for topping. Knead it untill smooth. Make a ball from the dough and put it to the freezer. Forget about it. That’s why I make the topping before I start doing anything else. The dough need about 30 minutes to harden. After everything is done, and the dough is hard enough you grate  it over the plums.

Bake in 340 F for about 50 minutes or until the topping is slightly brown. It really depends from your oven. Mine is terrible and every time I bake something I need to watch it very closely to not to burn it. In my oven 340 F means about 345 F or more.

Now I’m hungry!

The best way to start Monday – Cinnamon Butterfly

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with Mondays…, but I totally understand those who hate them…

“I don’t like Monday” Polish movie (very funny, believe me!) from 1971  – watching it is a one way how to enter Monday with a good mood.

More tasty and multi-international way is to have a fresh-baked cinnamon butterflies for breakfast:

This is the recipe:

  • 7 g active dry yeast (one teaspoon = 3.1 g)
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 4 Tbps melted butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 very small eggs
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom (I skipped it)
  • 2 1/4 cups plain flour
  • filling: 4 Tbps soft butter; 1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1 Tbp cinnamon
  • glaze: 1 small egg mixed with 1 Tbp milk; some crushed sugar cubes (don’t skip the sugar otherwise the buns won’t be sweet enough);
  • you can put some almond flakes on top as well or make a glaze (I didn’t have almonds or ingredients for glaze so I skipped it)

I made the dough last night and kept it in the fridge till this morning.

To make the dough last night took me about 10 minutes.

This morning I spent additional 10 minutes to roll the dough out, put cinnamon-sugar-butter filling, roll the dough up, and cut.

10 minutes of waiting for them to bake 🙂

Very easy to make, and very tasty! Worth to try it out!
