First communion…

A week ago I had chance to attend to First Communion at the Polish Church in San Jose.

Only two girls had their first communion that day. One was my friend’s daughter. Isn’t that pretty cool to have your first communion in such a small group?! I remember mine. It was like 60 kids!

Those are the few pictures I had taken at the house before we went to the church. Btw, did you know that I LOVE reflections ;)

At the reception :) We all had great time. Kids were everywhere, and they just loved posing for me.

This is the last picture I’ve taken before she asked me: Are we really done now? Too funny. When I said YES. She jumped from that seat and run out with a huge smile to play with other kids.

More shots from that day here.

Anyway, it was all great experience which reminded me how much I like to work with kids! :)

WOW!!! *.gif

Two post in one day!?!?! Oh well… Don’s want to mix too many challenges with no related pictures in one post…

So first I want to link up with Ahsley with my antsy pictures:

This is my straight from the camera shot of an ant. Last Monday I used it to link up wih Jill.

My two edits for Ashley. Couldn’t decide which one is better.

I didn’t edit it the way Ashley is taking about in her post… I do not use Photoshop, or Picassa, or Picnic… from time to time I use Lightroom (it means almost NEVER).

To resize and to sharpen my pictures in GIMP I simply use the “scale picture” and “sharpness” options separately. I don’t know if I can do it all together like some of you can do it in Photoshop.

Looking at both of the edited pictures I think that the best on is the not edited one!!!

… AND…

I’d like to say “THANK YOU” to Rachel for the award she gave me!!! And today I’ll link up with her, too. This time showing off my way of creating a gif file. So:

1.

Resize you pictures (they shouldn’t be big).

800 x 600 or smaller is perfect.

2.

Edit you pictures the way you like. Edit them separately.

3.

Open them in your editing software… Every single picture as a single layer. First picture as a first layer. Second picture as a second layer, third picture as a third layer, and so on… You can use as many pictures as you want. I used 21 to create this one: Remote control

4.

Than go to FILTERS -> Animation -> Playback

You will see your pictures moving as a one short movie… It’s awesome! I think I’ve found a new addition. Creating GIFs. To see the effect click on the picture below.

and then, she {snapped}

Click it Up a Notch

5.

Go to “save as” click on the box where normally you see “all files”. At the picture below you will see “GIF image (*.gif)”, and this is how you should save your work as… The extension has to be:

YOURFILENAME.gif

click “save”.

in GIMP it will ask me if I want to flatten image or save it as an animation. Of course I want to save it as animation. Silly GIMP :-).

The next step is to specify the delay between frames. The higher the number the slower the gif.

click “save”… AND YOU’RE DONE!!!

Enjoy

I met a dog today…

Little (I mean: small), loooong, black and white, sometimes loud but most of all… veeeery cute!  I took many pictures of him, because it was hard not to.

When I saw him I just couldn’t resist. I had take my camera out and snap some pictures. He didn’t like the camera, though… but a few doggy treats did the job… as you can see :-)

and I wasn’t sure which one to use for this post because I really like both…

Most of my pictures of him came up really dark; too dark. I had to “hire” my beloved GIMP, as always irreplaceable ;-)

Linkin up with Touch Up Tuesday:

Touch Up Tuesday's at the Paper Mama

BEFORE the edit

Adjusted color levels and…

… and added LOMO “script” (for photshop users “action”)

And there he is.

Isn’t he cute !?!?!

But the best is yet to come!

At the end

he gave me

that

BIG SMILE!!!

hugs from my corner, everybody!

A few of my favourite things to photograph

it feels like it’s been ages since I took a diagonal picture – my favourite perspective, and of my favourite thing – reflection. So there they are:

I’ve been kind of distracted by all those photo challenges I’ve discovered lately… and trying to keep up with some of them I kind of stepped away from reflections… and I don’t know why, but from diagonals, too. Maybe because I’ve heard many, many people saying that they don’t like diagonals; diagonals are weird, etc. I love diagonals. For me it’s been very natural way of holding the camera, and taking a picture… I hadn’t thought about that until a few people pointed it out to me. Oh well.

I don’t think this one below is very good, but it will do for now.

This is my favourite little person to photograph. When you see that smile it’s no wonder why she is my favorite :-)

One more, but this time for one of today’s photo challenges:

I’d heard about textures so many times in the past… and I was looking at people’s pictures thinking, “WOW! I would love to be able to do that someday!” I thought that working with textures is some kind of black magic, wicca, voo doo, or something that I will never have the patience to learn about…,  that it requires special magic software and skills and maybe a 6th sense… And someday it just happend… Just like that… It was really magical, maybe it really has something to do with magic afterall… lol…
I didn’t know that it is so easy!!! I mean I’m not an expert… and I’m far from being able to make a picture to look fantastic with some kind of breathtaking texture… but if you are reading it… and thinking the same about textures that I was before… please stop… it’s amazingly easy… really… :-P It became one of my favourite ways of editing my pictures. Though I don’t want to become very monotonous with only one way of editing…

and that’s how the picture look without editing:

SOOC Saturday

Maybe because of one of my friends, Arline who’s been taking AMAZING photos of birds, and because of my jealousy about that… I like to take a picture of a bird now and then… I’m not anywhere near where she is with her skills and equipment… but… oh well… we can’t have everything… right ;-)

btw, yes… this is picture from today… and yes… you are looking at a humming bird :-)

Of course flowers are on my list of favourite things to photograph… but who doesn’t like photograph flowers!?!

and some of today’s challenges call for some flowers, too:

Macro Flowers Saturday badge 3

and

but…

being honest with you I like to take pictures of almost anything… I’ve even been studying self-portraits photography… because that’s the less favorite thing to take pictures of for me! will see how that works ;-)

Can you clap?!

SHE CAN :-)

3 precious pictures

to make one even more precious

and today I downloaded a few free actions, plug-ins, scripts (whatever you call them) for my beloved GIMP. It didn’t happen without the pain, and frustration, and darn this and damn that (and much more those bad words that good people don’t want to read, but I want to write sooo bad here :-P, but ok I won’t).

This one is called National Geographic, and I love it!!!

I know I promised to post a picture of barszcz… but I even didn’t eat it today (wait… Have I eaten today at all?)

I was too busy figuring out those plug-ins, scripts-fu, blah blah blah…

and we measured and weighted our Miss “I can almost walk by myself and if you hold me I walk like a stork”.

almost 30 inches

almost 22 pounds

She is growing so fast. I was looking at her pictures right after we came home from the hospital almost 10 months ago…
